Note: Please do not submit unsolicited manuscripts. Phone or e-mail us
before submitting your manuscript
Manuscripts should be submitted in the following format:
. Either an original printout or a readable photocopy is acceptable on 8-1/2x11
white paper (unstapled), printed on one side, left-justified, pages numbered
consecutively.
. Your manuscript should be in 12-point (Arial, Times, New Roman, Courier), on
double-spaced pages with one-inch margins (which equates to approximately
250 words per page).
. Include a header or footer with the author's name and the title of the work.
. Attach a cover page, with your full name and address, phone and e-mail
address, and manuscript title.
. If you are sending a book-length manuscript or an excerpt from a book-length
manuscript, please include a short (one page) synopsis.
There are two reasons for including this information on your manuscript. First,
it will identify your manuscript for our reference. Second, and more importantly,
you will be asked to submit your manuscript in a similar manner when you are
sending it to an agent or publisher. Part of the editing service we provide is to
be sure your work is in the proper format to submit to an agent or publisher.
There are three ways to submit your manuscript:
1. Standard mail - Send a hardcopy of your manuscript. Corrections, additions
and comments will be blue-penciled on the copy you send. Be sure to keep a
copy of your original manuscript on file. If you send a hardcopy, please
include a SASE(Self-Addressed-Stamped-Envelope), or box with sufficient
postage (stamps, not metered postage) to return your material.
2. 3x5 diskette - If you choose this method, mail a diskette (Files should
be in MS Word format or WordPerfect, PC files, not MAC). We will assume
corrections may be made on the medium you send unless other arrangements
are made. If you prefer to keep your original material on the diskette, please
include a blank diskette on which we will copy your original. Again,
remember to include a SASE for the return of your work. If requested,
we will print the manuscript from the diskette, at an additional cost
of five (5) cents per page.
3. You may submit your work electronically, as an e-mail attachment (Word or
WordPerfect documents only). If you choose this method of submission, we
will either edit your manuscript electronically, using the Word "Track Changes"
or at your request, we will make a copy of your manuscript with the
changes incorporated into it. We will then e-mail both the original and amended
versions to you. As in item 2 above, there is an additional cost of five (5) cents
per page if you request us to print the manuscript.
If you choose the "Track Changes" method, all annotations are highlighted,
insertions as well as deletions. We will include comments on the story
within the body of the text. These highlights and comments can be taken out
with the click of your mouse. You may view the comments by positioning your
mouse over the highlighted area in your text. You may accept or reject these
changes at your discretion.
If you are not familiar with the "Track Changes" feature, consult your
Word documentation, or click "Tools" and "Track Changes" to familiarize
yourself with it. We recommend Word xxxx for Dummies (where xxxx is your
version of Word; 2000 for example), which has an excellent discussion on
this subject.
Note: We reserve the right to refuse to edit any manuscript or to refuse to
edit at the level a writer designates. In this case, we will discuss
the matter with you before proceeding.
